He was a member of the Sustainability Board of the City of Freiburg from 2010 to 2014.

Dr. Thomas Schlegl studied Physics at the University of Regensburg, Germany, and the University of Montpellier II, France. He received his Ph.D. in Physics from Regensburg University in 2005. Since 2005, he was the Head of Strategic Planning at Fraunhofer ISE and Managing Director of Fraunhofer Energy Alliance. Between 2010-2014 Thomas Schlegl was a Member of the Sustainability Board of the City of Freiburg. Since 2018 he is the Head of Department Energy System Analysis at Fraunhofer ISE. His research focuses on Techno-Economic Assessments of Energy Technologies; Market Analysis; Trend Analysis of Technological Developments; Assessment of Resource Requirements for Energy Technologies; Resource Assessment for the Energy System Transformation; National and Regional Energy System Assessments; Development of Education and Training Modules.
